Jan 05 | Champaign County Winter Storm Forecast
A winter storm warning is in effect for Champaign county and surrounding portions of east central Illinois until 12 p.m. Monday. Periods of heavy snow and blustery winds are expected to create dangerous winter weather conditions Sunday afternoon into Monday morning after a quiet morning locally. Snow will begin to over spread the region through midday. The heaviest snow is expected to fall across Champaign county late Sunday afternoon into Sunday night with 4 to 7 inches of accumulation possible by Monday morning. Champaign-Urbana will be on the northern edge of the snow zone with areas north of the twin cities and Ford, Iroquois and Livingston counties perhaps seeing little to no snow. High winds will gust out of the northeast, 35 to 40 miles per hour, leading to areas of blowing and drifting snow near whiteout conditions and treacherous travel Sunday evening into Monday morning. Winter storm conditions will taper off midday Monday, but continued snow flurries and blustery winds may prolong hazardous travel conditions in rural areas through the day on Monday.
