This week marked the start of climatological winter, both by the calendar and by the weather. Average temperatures this week ranged from the low 20s in northern Illinois to the low 30s in southern Illinois, between 8 and 12 degrees below average. Most places in the state saw nighttime low temperatures dip into the teens and single digits, with some very impressive lows like -7 in Lincoln and -6 in Moline.…

This week was a bit more like mid-fall than late fall, with average temperatures ranging from the mid-40s to the low 50s, between 2 and 7 degrees above average. Many places saw high temperatures reach into the upper 70s, including 79 in Jacksonville and 78 in Charleston. November temperatures to date have been 1 to 3 degrees warmer than normal statewide.…

According to the U-S Drought Monitor, Champaign, Coles, Douglas, Moultrie and Piatt Counties are experiencing extreme drought. We slipped back into summer this week. Average temperatures ranged from the mid-60s in northern Illinois to the mid-70s in southern Illinois, 4 to 8 degrees above normal. The lack of humidity and extremely dry conditions allowed daytime high temperatures to push well into the 90s this week. Some of the more impressive highs this week included 99 degrees in Alton and Decatur.
